Part 1 of the Thai “play” idiom series. “Nice & Fun Play” – As you’ll see in this 3-part series of my musing about /lên/ words and idioms, there are all kinds of plays as expressed by this Thai word “เล่น” – nice & fun, bad & dangerous, sexual, etc. In Part 1 we’ll get to know the nice and fun set – the following vocabulary is used generally in day-to-day life, and shows the nice and fun side of Thai people and culture.

“Reconciliation” Talk (Thai-Style) & Bullets in the Head (Mafia-Style)

A round-up of events in the Thai crisis during 3-14 May 2010, starting with the government’s offer of Nov. 14 election and reconciliation and ending with the start of the crackdown of the Red Shirt protesters on May 14. From a somewhat promising possibility of a peaceful deal, the negotiations between the Red Shirts and the Thai government would struggle and be finally derailed, while the position on both sides hardened. Thailand ended up in another bloodbath.
