I admitted long ago (to myself) that I am a terrible blogger. Scratch that — I am no blogger. Blogging is just not for me. I cannot blog. Too busy, too undisciplined to do it. I can only write in spurts, it seems.
So here I am again, another Valentine’s year later. Inspired, captured by the spirit of the occasion while sharing with Catherine and her readers after Cat’s review of my book on her Women Learning Thai blog, I translated the lyrics of an old romantic song, รักข้ามขอบฟ้า or “Love over the Skyline.” This song title is an expression in the book. I did the translation in the morning on St. Valentine’s Day. So, here it is, a gift to you all.
Besides being a non-blogger, I’m no poet, and never took to poetry. But I tried my best. I’m sure others can do better, but it’s the spirit that counts, isn’t it? Happy Valentine’s Day 2010!
รักข้ามขอบฟ้า – Love Over the Skyline

ขอบฟ้าเหนืออาณาใดกั้น
Skyline … lies beyond all borders.
ใช่รักจะดั้นยากกว่านกโบยบิน

As Love embraces, when it does
ชาติภาษาไม่สำคัญเท่าใจตรงกัน
Nationality, language no longer matters – only matching hearts.
รักข้ามขอบฟ้า รักคือสื่อภาษาสวรรค์
Love over the Skyline; Love is the heavenly word;
อาจมีใจคนละดวง
Two hearts may beat
ต่างเก็บอยู่คนละทรวง
In different chests, each one.
ไม่ห่วงถ้ามีสัมพันธ์
Worry not, if there’s a love connection.
ขอบฟ้าแม้จะคนละฟาก
Skyline, though on a different side of the Earth,
ห่างไกลกันมาก แต่ก็ฟ้าเดียวกัน
Distant, yet is of the same Sky.
รักข้ามขอบฟ้า ข้ามมาผูกพัน
Love crosses over the Skyline, over the horizon to bind;
ผูกใจรักมั่น…สองดวงให้เป็นดวงเดียว
Love ties … Two Hearts united as One.
